ONE LIFE GONE, A NEW ONE MADE

At the age of ten, my parents were great friends with a younger couple who had moved to town and had become Jehovahs Witnesses. They soon had a baby, who I babysat a lot and later became like a big sister to, and spent a lot of time with. These people were ones that had taken me under their wings, especially the guy. He’d spend quite a bit of time with my brother and me both, talking to us, always making sure we were ok. I really loved them and enjoyed the feeling of being cared about. At the age of 21 I of course had been away from the Jw’s for quite some time. This guy and his wife had moved away some time ago, but had come back for a visit and looked my mom up for a visit. He seemed to be going through one of those “spiritually weak” times that the JW’s warn you about, and was disenchanted with them for lack of a better term. I don’t know exactly what all he had gone through with them but I do know some of it and he was starting to see through them himself. He seemed to feel the need to come clean and tell me, via my mom, about some things that happened way back when, when we all were friends and spent a lot of time together. This is when my life really changed forever. Really I should say, I changed forever. I’ve not been the same since, in some good ways, and some not so good.

Turns out, when I was about ten to eleven yrs old, I straight out told him what my dad was doing to me sexually. I didn’t go into a lot of detail but let him know in no uncertain terms. He also let my mom know that one night when he was at our house visiting, my dad had gone to my room to tell me goodnight or tuck me in or something, and didn’t come back for a while. He decided to come to my room to see what was going on. All he could do was describe it to my mom as him seeing the most horrified look on my face about what my dad was doing to me. He never did tell her exactly the details of what he saw but it still haunted him. He had taken all of this information to the only people he knew of to be the authorities on something like this, a terrible thing happening to a little girl in the congregation by her JW father. Surely they would help and make this stop. I don’t think he was ever the same either, after that day in the meeting with the elders when they told him to keep his mouth shut about this and to “never let it get out”.

Why he let this go on and obeyed these men, I’ll never know. He was quite upset about it still, actually very angry.
